Meeting Minutes from 10-27-2009

Hello cyclists,

Here's the rundown of what we talked about last night:
  • We gave a huge kudos to Amy West who got 7th in the Cross Country and 9th in the Short Track at USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike Nationals. Sic 'em Amy! We're proud of you!
  • The 24 Hour Ride will be Thursday 11/19 - Friday 11/20 at Daniel Fountain Plaza across from Fountain Mall. It's going to be a huge event and lots of fun! Plus, let's not forget that we're riding to benefit the Jon Pursley Victim Fund. At the next meeting (11/10) we'll be signing up for shifts to ride and going over final details. Also I'll be sending out a copy of the event flyer some time in the next week - start posting them everywhere!
  • The Waco Women on Wheels Mountain Bike Clinic is coming up (11/6-11/7) in Cameron Park. We'll have the opportunity to volunteer as a team to help out at the clinic, meet some mountain biking pros, see some sweet bikes, and earn service points. More details to come.
  • Upcoming Rides:
    • Thursday 4:30 - easy ride leaving from Fountain Mall
    • Saturday
      • 9:00 - Jon-Howard is leading a long fast ride leaving from Fountain Mall. Contact him if you're interested
      • 11:30 - GUT PACK RIDE leaving from Fountain Mall. Short group ride to VITEKS FOR GUT PACKS! We'll meet up with those who went on the long ride at Viteks a little before 12. Yes, there's a Baylor game but we can watch it at Viteks and 'tailgate' there. Wear your Baylor jersey! (please remember to bring $$$ to buy food at Viteks!)
  • Those who ordered team performance fleeces at the meeting I'll be sending you another email with more specific details.
  •  ***I just received an email from the person in charge of Beardowns. They've eliminated the rule restricting us from having only 2 cycling members per team. They want us out in full force to kick butt and take names. Anyone interested? The event will be next Wednesday. Registration ends Monday.

Although cycling is slow this time of year I can assure you it will pick up quickly in the spring. In the mean time, put some base miles under your butt, serve others through volunteering and riding at the 24 Hour Ride, and get to know your team mates! I haven't seen several of you for a while - please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Upcoming MTB Race: ATM at Bar H Ranch, St.Jo TX

The final MTB race of the season is coming up, and it's going to be awesome. Bar H is one of everyone's favorite places to ride because of the atmosphere, trails, and general awesomeness of the place. The trails are fun and varying in difficulty and type. There's loose dirt, hardpack dirt, rocks, fast flats, downhills, and kick you in the lung climbs. We'll probably pre-ride the longer XC course saturday afternoon as a group, and you're welcome to come with us even if you aren't racing. Spectators can come and camp for free!

If you're interested in coming to this event, either to race or to just hang out, please contact an officer as soon as possible. We'll be leaving early saturday morning, camping out that night, then returning midday on Sunday. There will be dinner provided for a small fee by the ranch on Saturday night.

-Amy West, a Baylor Cycling graduate student has a fantastic study that is open to males ages 18-30.  You will get paid and get lots of cool free testing in the process. Email me if you're interested and i'll let Amy know!

I believe that about sums it up.  Hope to see you all at groups rides AND next week's meeting (Tuesday 9/8 8:00pm SLC room 314)

As always, don't hesitate to call (number removed) or email with any questions or just to say hi!  My internet is down so i'm a little slower with email responses than usual.
